Seals Sign Defenseman Kyle Hartzell

The San Diego Seals announced today that the team has signed veteran defenseman Kyle Hartzell to a one-year contract, pending league approval.

Hartzell, 33, has appeared in 65 games in his five-year career, registering 32 points, 32 penalty minutes, 24 caused turnovers and scooping up 309 loose balls. He won a National Lacrosse League championship in 2010.

"Kyle is a versatile defender and seasoned NLL veteran," said general manager and head coach Patrick Merrill. "He has excellent ground ball abilities, and has experience covering some of the top offensive players in the game. We are fortunate to add him to our roster and know that he'll be a great addition to our defense."

The 6-2, 180-pound righty has had success at the international level, winning gold in 2018 and silver in 2014 at the FIL World Lacrosse Championships as member of Team USA, and a bronze with the U.S. indoor team in 2011.

Hartzell played college lacrosse at Salisbury, winning a NCAA Division III championship in 2007. He was a USILA Third Team All-American and a First-Team All-CAC (2007). Hartzell is the only Division III player on Team USA.

The first-place San Diego Seals visit the Toronto Rock at Scotiabank Arena on Fri., Feb. 15. The team returns home to play the Vancouver Warriors at Pechanga Arena San Diego on Saturday, Mar. 2 at 7:00 PM PST. Reserve your seats today at SealsLax.com.
