Sea Dogs Make Pre-Draft Trade

MONCTON, NB --- Saint John Sea Dogs Director of Hockey Operations Mike Kelly announced today that the team has acquired forwards Mike Hoffman and Nicholas Petersen from the Drummondville Voltigeurs and Shawinigan Cataractes in a pair of deals finalized during the QMJHL's pre-draft trading period.

The Sea Dogs send a second round draft pick in 2010 to the Voltigeurs for Hoffman, while the Cataractes receive a first round selection in 2010 in exchange for Petersen's services. Both players ranked in the top ten in league scoring during the 2008-09 season.

Petersen, 20, has recorded 119 points (48G-71A) in 119 career games with the Cataractes. The Wakefield, QC native has also tallied 15G-13A-28P in 26 career post-season contests.

Hoffman scored 52 goals last season, the second-highest total in the entire QMJHL. A native of Kitchener, ON, Hoffman has registered 124GP-76G-66A-142P-179PIM over the course of his two seasons of major junior hockey with the Voltigeurs and Gatineau Olympiques. During the 2009 President's Cup Playoffs, the 19-year old winger netted 21 goals and dished out 13 assists in leading Drummondville to a league title.

Saint John also sent a sixth round pick (93rd overall) at this year's entry draft to Lewiston today, completing an earlier transaction made between the two clubs.

The 2009 QMJHL Entry Draft is scheduled to get underway tomorrow morning at 10am at the Moncton Coliseum. The Sea Dogs own two first round selections (#10 and #18 overall) headed into the annual prospect-acquisition convention.
