Pre-Season Recap

The Sea Dogs are kicking off their season with a home and home against the Charlottetown Islanders this weekend, starting with the home opener tonight at 7 PM at TD Station.

Busy Off Season

This summer was a busy one, from the announcement of the Sea Dogs being named the 2022 Memorial Cup hosts to New Brunswicker Gordie Dwyer being named the team's new head coach. Sea Dogs President & General Manager Trevor Georgie was busy with the acquisition of many new players added to a roster of homegrown talent.

New additions include New York Islanders forward William Dufour, acquired in a trade from Drummondville, as well as veteran goaltender Jonathan Lemieux and physical forward Olivier Picard, both acquired in separate trades with Val d'Or. The team also signed rugged Swiss-Canadian defenceman Vincent Despont and Belarusian forward Evgeny Sapelnikov.

Who was hot?

Coming off a hot pre-season with a record of 6-1-1-0, the Sea Dogs have already shown a preview of what is to come this year. Longtime Sea Dog and Fredericton native Josh Lawrence scored 5 goals and 4 assists in his six pre-season games, new Sea Dog William Dufour and rookies Carter McCluskey and Nico Laforge put up 8 points each.

The goaltending tandem of Noah Patenaude and Jonathan Lemieux also impressed in the past few weeks. Patenaude put up a .940 save percentage in his three games and Lemieux stunned in his final game of the pre-season, forcing the game to a shootout in Halifax.

Kia CHL Top-10 Rankings

For the second season in a row, the Sea Dogs made the CHL Top-10 Rankings. The team was recognized as the third best team in the League going into the 2021-2022 season. (x)

Sea Dogs at NHL Camps

The Sea Dogs impressed both at home and across the country, as seven Sea Dogs participated in NHL training camps: Ryan Francis (CAL), Jeremie Poirier (CAL), Peter Reynolds (CBJ), Cameron MacDonald (TBL), Brady Burns (EDM), Charlie Desroches (BUF), and William Villeneuve (TOR). Poirier and Villeneuve both signed their first professional contracts. Flames' prospects Ryan Francis and Yan Kuznetsov, the Sea Dogs 1st round selection in the 2021 CHL Import Draft, are both still at Calgary Flames/Stockton Heart training camps.

After a great training camp and pre-season, the Sea Dogs are ready to get to work. After a flurry of moves, NHL drafted players returning from their training camps, and the Memorial Cup here in June, there is a lot to look forward to, both for fans and players, this season.
