Sea Dogs Give Thanks, Recognize Key Stakeholders

October 12, 2019 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Saint John Sea Dogs News Release

With Thanksgiving Weekend upon us and in honour of the Sea Dogs 15th Anniversary, the Team recognized their four most committed stakeholders: Founding Partners Irving Oil and Moosehead Breweries, Naming Rights Sponsor TD Bank Group, and team owner Scott McCain.

Prior to the game on Friday night, an intimate gathering was held offsite to unveil special plaques that recognize the generous contributions and unwavering commitment of these key stakeholders. The plaques will be on permanent display in the Sea Dogs Blue Mile located in the pedway system. The plaques join the Sea Dogs Hall of Fame, as well as recently added Sea Dogs Wall of Captains, also on The Blue Mile.

"It is impossible to have the Sea Dogs in Saint John without our fans, our sponsors, our city, and so many incredible stakeholders," said Sea Dogs President and General Manager, Trevor Georgie. "As a team, we felt it important that we recognize four stakeholders that have shown unwavering support, leadership, and passion through their remarkable commitment to junior hockey in Saint John. None of these organizations or individuals have ever asked for a "thanks", but we as a team wanted them to be recognized and celebrated for all that they have done, and all they continue to do."

The Sea Dogs have two Founding Partners. Both have been part of the team before a puck was ever dropped for a Sea Dogs game.

As a Founding Partner, Moosehead's support has enhanced the fan experience at TD Station. Fans have been able to enjoy the game from the comfort and convenience of the Alpine Room or more recently, the most social of Sea Dogs fans have been able to experience ice-level action in the Moosehead Light Ice Bar, a first of its kind in Atlantic Canada.

Founding Partner Irving Oil is community-focused. They have supported the Sea Dogs through the years by rallying its employees, local youth, and the community to cheer on the home team. Irving Oil's 7th Player program has become a fan favourite giving local minor hockey players the opportunity the join the team at centre ice at the start of each home game.

This past August, TD Bank Group announced the naming rights and sponsorship of the team's home - TD Station. TD has a long history of supporting and investing in the communities it serves and through this sponsorship, they will help ensure that fans and members of the community continue to be exposed to memorable experiences both on and off the ice.

Born down the road in Florenceville, Scott McCain is a proud New Brunswicker and proud Owner of the Sea Dogs. Initially part of a group of owners to bring the Sea Dogs to the Port City in 2005, he became sole owner of the team in 2019. With his generosity, leadership and patience, the team has won three President Cups and one Memorial Cup. Off the ice, the Sea Dogs and the Sea Dogs Foundation have been engaged community partners and are focused on enhancing the liveability of the region and province.

For fans that have not yet seen The Blue Mile, it is located in the pedway system between TD Station and the Mercantile Centre.
