Saskatchewan Rattlers Sign Import Travis Daniels

March 16, 2021 - Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) - Saskatchewan Rattlers News Release

Saskatoon, SK - The Saskatchewan Rattlers, member club of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL), are excited to announce the signing of two-time CEBL First Team All-Star and 2020 CEBL Summer Series champion, Travis Daniels, to their roster. The veteran forward joins the Rattlers after spending the previous two CEBL seasons playing for the Edmonton Stingers.

Daniels has been all over the world playing basketball professionally including stops in Romania (Phoenix Galati - 2016), Bulgaria (Balkan Botevrad - 2016-17), Dominican Republic (Leones de Santo Domingo - 2017), Greece (Rethymno Cretan Kings - 2017-19; Kolossos Rodou - 2019-20) and Cyprus (Keravnos - 2020), in addition to his two years with Edmonton (2019-20). The Eutaw, AL., -native has averaged 9.9 points, 0.9 assists and 5.3 rebounds over the course of 125 professional games. Daniels has been a dominant force during his two years in the CEBL racking up 15.1 points, 1.8 assists and 6.7 rebounds in his two seasons with the Stingers. Success has followed Daniels throughout his career, with the forward being named Bulgarian Cup MVP in 2017 and winning the CEBL Championship during the 2020 CEBL Summer Series. The 6-foot-8 forward will bring size, scoring, rebounding and defensive prowess to the Rattlers roster.

"I'm very happy to be joining the Rattlers for the upcoming season", said Travis Daniels. "I'm excited to get the ball rolling on a new team with a winning pedigree. I look forward to representing the province of Saskatchewan and battling for another CEBL Championship. I'm ready to get to work."

2021 will mark Daniel's sixth professional season after graduating from Mississippi State in 2016. Prior to joining Mississippi State, Daniels had a stand-out high school athletic career where he was named an honourable mention for Class 5A by the Alabama Sports Writers' Association as well as being named to the Willis Valley Shootout and Regional All-Tournament Teams. Daniels started his post-secondary basketball career at Shelton State Community College where he played from 2012 to 2014. His play caught the eye of many NCAA Division 1 programs, which led to Daniels committing to Mississippi State in 2014. Daniels spent his final two years of collegiate eligibility playing for the Bulldogs. Over the course of his two years with Mississippi State, Daniels averaged 5.9 points, 0.7 assists and 4.2 rebounds.

"We are very excited to have Travis join the Rattlers for the 2021 season", said Rattlers GM, Barry Rawlyk. "Travis fits into exactly what we are trying to do here in Saskatchewan. Not only is he a dominant basketball player on the court, but he is someone who is an extremely high-character individual and will adapt well to our community. He's a level-headed individual who will help us on both ends of the floor every night that he takes the court. We are excited to see him continue to evolve his game with the Rattlers."

The CEBL is preparing for its third season in 2021 following the success of this past year's CEBL Summer Series in St. Catharines, Ont., which saw millions of viewers across Canada and around the world tune in starting July 25 to watch 26 games played over 15 days in a single-site league competition. The CEBL became the first professional sports league in Canada to return to play after the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus in mid-March shut down sports across the country.
