July 8, 2017 - International League (IL) - Buffalo Bisons News Release

Thanks to a solid start on the mound from Luis Santos, the Bisons snapped a three-game skid on Friday night with 5-0 shutout victory over Pawtucket at McCoy stadium.

Santos (W, 3-7) went for a complete seven innings for the Herd and put together the best Triple-A start thus far in his career. Keeping Pawtucket scoreless, the righty gave up four base-hits and just a pair of walks in the start. Santos hurled 110 pitches with 76 of them being strikes and he also fanned seven batters before getting relief from the Bisons bullpen.

Buffalo scored in four different innings on the night with their most productive coming in the opening frame. The Herd's big day began with a Dwight Smith Jr. double followed by an RBI single on a grounder to center field from Jason Leblebijian . Rowdy Tellez kept the inning going with a line drive single to right field and made his way home when Gregorio Petit drove a pitch to right and gave the Bisons an early 2-0 lead.

Tellez made sure that the Herd kept the early advantage, tacking on a third run in the third inning. Bringing Leblebijian home after reaching first by way of a single, the first baseman grabbed his thirteenth double of the year with a line drive to right field.

The Herd brought in two more insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Shane Opitz grounded into a force out towards second with the bases loaded in the fifth to score Tellez. Michael Saunders grabbed his first RBI of the season with the Herd an inning later when he sent Roemon Fields home with a grounder to right field.

Wil Browning pitched in relief of Santos' strong performance and kept the Herd shutout intact. The righty gave up a hit and a walk while also delivering three strikeouts.

Buffalo continues their three-game series with the PawSox on Saturday evening, with first pitch for game two coming in at 6:15 p.m. Chris Rowley (1-1, 3.24 ERA) will start for the Herd and Edgar Olmos (5-2, 1.82 ERA) will be on the mound for Pawtucket.
