Sam Gregory Joins MLS Side Inter Miami as Director of Analytics

January 21, 2021 - Canadian Premier League (CPL) - York United FC News Release

Toronto, ON - York United FC can confirm Sam Gregory has joined Major League Soccer side Inter Miami as Director of Analytics.

The Kingston, ON native served as Director of On-Field Analytics with York United since July 2020 and, despite an immensely tight schedule, immediately contributed some exemplary work for The Island Games tournament that began in mid-August. Since then, he's been a fundamental part of a busy off-season recruitment process that's seen the curation of a young, exciting squad for the 2021 campaign that boasts an average age of 22 years and four months.

"Recruiting Sam was a major coup for us as he really is one of the absolute best in his field and I'd go as far to say in the top-five worldwide," says York United FC CEO/President and GM Angus McNab.

"I always thought he would have interest from other teams and, just like our players, we want our staff to grow and take the next steps in their careers. The opportunity and resources at his disposal in Miami are fantastic and I really look forward to seeing what he can achieve down there."

"It isn't just his skill in finding and providing insight, it's distilling these pieces into actionable points in opposition analysis or identifying things on the recruitment side that have proved valuable. He leaves us with a really solid foundation and framework to build on."

Though sad to be departing, Gregory is enthused by the potential of the squad and believes it's an exciting time for the club.

"I'm really proud of what we've been able to accomplish at York United over the past six months, both at The Island Games under incredibly challenging circumstances and building one of the most exciting young squads in the CPL for 2021. Even though I'm disappointed to be leaving, I can't wait to see this team take the field next season. I think all York United supporters are in for a treat."

"The opportunity to join a new and ambitious club like Inter Miami was one I couldn't pass up but I'm very grateful for my time at York United Football Club and I wish the team the best of luck going forward."
