St. Paul Saints News Release

ROBSTOWN, TX (June 1, 2007) - The St. Paul Saints are supposed to win these games and it helps when they can win in two nights as they swept a double header from the Coastal Bend Aviators, winning game one 7-2 and taking game two 5-1 at Fairgrounds Field.

The Saints looked sharp in game one and they came out swinging. They scored a run in the first on three straight singles from Scooter Jordan, Ben Thomas and Adam Olow, the latter scoring a run to make it 1-0.

The Saints tacked on two more in the third when Marcel Longmire blasted a solo homer off the scoreboard in left-center, his fifth of the season. They got their second run when Brian Sprout doubled and Brent Krause followed with an infield single to third. The throw to first by thirdbaseman JD Foust got away and that allowed Sprout to score.

With the score 3-1 in the fourth the Saints put it away by putting up a four spot. With the bases loaded and one out Adam Olow hit a grounder to first, but Grant Richardson's throw to the plate was too late to get Matt Brunson. Sprout followed with his second double of the night clearing the bases, giving the Saints a 7-1 lead.

Jake Postlewait tried to go the distance, but after loading the bases with one out in the seventh, the Saints turned it over to Jamie Tricoglou. He struck out James Lofton and got Foust to foul out to end the game.

In game two the Saints used the long ball to get ahead and then used the arm of Adam Brandenburg to do the rest. With the Saints trailing 1-0 in the second inning Sprout and Krause hit back-to-back homers, it was the second for each of them.

Brandenburg did the rest going 5.0 innings allowing one run on five hits while walking two and striking out three, earning his first victory of the season.

The Saints added a two-run triple from Matt Brunson in the fourth and a sac fly from Olow in the sixth to finish off the scoring.

The Saints go for the series sweep on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send LHP Luis Villarreal (1-0, 0.00) to the mound and the Aviators are TBA. The game can be heard on KBGY 107.5 FM.
