Rox Even Record with 7-2 Win over Mustangs

July 12, 2018 - Pioneer League (PL) - Grand Junction Rockies News Release

Wednesday night at Dehler Park the Rockies got their record back to the .500 mark by winning their fourth straight game, beating the Billings Mustangs 7-2.

Billings took advantage of four Alfredo Garcia walks in the first inning, but could only score one run, and the Rockies took advantage in the second. Cristopher Navarro worked a bases loaded walk to tie the game, then Will Golsan followed with a 2-run single to give the Rockies the lead.

They never gave up the lead, though with Garcia out of the game in the second it looked like they might. Jared Skolnicki allowed hits to the first three Mustangs he faced, but struck out the next two and got Pabel Manzanero to ground out to third to end the inning with the bases loaded.

Skolnicki tossed two scoreless innings, earning the win, and in the fourth, Daniel Montano tripled and scored on Javier Guevara's sacrifice fly to make it a three run game.

Rayne Supple made those runs hold up as he threw up zeroes in the fourth and fifth innings, and after Grant Lavigne singled in the sixth to extend his hitting streak to 11 games Guevara singled him home to make it 5-1 Rockies.

Moises Ceja kept the Mustangs off the board in the sixth, but they did score against Reagan Todd in the seventh, starting the frame with three straight hits, but a caught stealing and back-to-back strikeouts kept it a three run game, and after Will Tribucher tossed a 1-2-3 eighth inning, the Rockies put the game away with two in the ninth. Hunter Stovall doubled home Guevara after he plated John Cresto.

Guevara finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBI. Coco Montes and Will Golsan also had two hit nights for the Rockies.

The Rockies bullpen combined for eight innings and allowed one run and struck out 13 with just two walks.
