Rox Early Surge Leads to Sweep over Bucks

St. Cloud, MN -- The Rox continue to roll heading into the final week of the regular season. Sunday they rolled again, scoring 9 runs in the first 3 innings to lead them to a 9-2 win and sweep over the Bucks. The Rox have now won five in a row and nine of their last 12 games with just 6 regular season matchups left on the schedule.
It started in the 1st, when Matthew Tarantino came up with two-on and two outs. He hammered a ball to Centerfield and started the scoring with a bang. In the 2nd, Cameron Eden (Cal) singled to bring in Angelo Altavilla (Nebraska) following his double. Already leading 3-0, the Rox poured in 6 more in the 3rd to put the game out of reach. Eden drilled a 3 run home run in the inning to finish off Waterloo and keep St. Cloud in the top of the North Division standings.
Aaron Rozek (Minnesota State-Mankato) pitched 6 strong innings and earned his 6th win. He only gave up 1 run and struck out 6, bringing his total to 78 on the season. It's 1 shy of the Rox single season record set by Logan Salow. The Northwoods League leader in K's was impressive again and set the tone for his team's 40th win.
Joe Calamita (Bethune-Cookman) finished off the final three innings scoreless, and only allowed two hits.
The Rox are playing some of their best baseball with the season coming down to the wire. They hit the road now for the next few days to play La Crosse. We'll be back home on Thursday for a series with the Express. 1st pitch is at 7:05 PM and there will be a Double Bobblehead of 2016 Northwoods Field Manager of the Year Augie Rodriguez and Two-Time World Series Champion Al Newman presented by Capital One, 1240 WJON and 98.1 Minnesota's New Country. The 1st 400 fans at the game will receive a token to be redeemed for a double bobblehead after the fifth inning.
