Rox Drop Game One to Ogden
July 5, 2018 - Pioneer League (PL)
Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release
Coco Montes extended his hitting streak to 16 games but the Grand Junction Rockies lost to the Ogden Raptors 22-7 Wednesday night at Suplizio Field in front of a franchise record 6,429 fans.
Montes finished with three hits giving him 35 for the season and Wednesday was his 10th multi-hit game out of 18 he's played in.
Niko Decolati and Javier Guevara also had three hit nights. Decolati tripled, drove in four runs, and hit his second home run of the season, but the loss dropped the Rockies to 9-11 on the season.
After Ogden scored a pair in the second to take a 2-0 lead, Decolati scored on Grant Lavigne's RBI single to cut the lead in half, but it was all Ogden from that point on. Matt Cogen hit a 2-run homer as part of a three-run third inning, and after the Raptors scored three in the fourth, they rallied with two out in the fifth and scored eight runs to take a 16-1 lead.
The Rockies scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth, but Ogden scored three in the seventh, two in the eighth and one in the ninth before Decolati's 3-run homer in the bottom of the ninth.
The 22 runs and 21 hits allowed by Rockies pitching was a season high. The Raptors had 11 extra base hits, including four home runs.
