Round Rock Evens Series with 7-3 Win over Nashville

C Brett Nicholas Drives in Four as Express Bats Come Alive

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Round Rock Express (12-15) snapped out of their recent funk with a comfortable 7-3 win over the Nashville Sounds (11-12) on Wednesday night at Dell Diamond. Express C Brett Nicholas finished a perfect 3-3 at the plate, driving in four runs.

E-Train starter RHP Allen Webster (1-2, 7.71) earned his first win of the season after five solid innings on the mound. The righty surrendered just two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five. Sounds starter RHP Paul Blackburn (1-3, 3.04) took the loss after a performance in which he allowed five runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings. He struck out four and walked two.

Round Rock said goodbye to an 11-inning scoreless streak thanks to a four-run third. 3B Josh Wilson started things off by doubling before 2B Drew Robinson followed up with a walk. 1B Ronald Guzman roped a single to center field that allowed Wilson to race home. A Jared Hoying double scored Robinson and left two runners in scoring position for Nicholas. The backstop delivered with a fly ball that dropped in shallow left field, scoring the third and fourth Express runs of the evening.

Nashville DH Renato Nunez homered in the fourth inning to cut the Round Rock lead to 4-1. However, the Express picked the run right back up in the bottom of the frame. Guzman notched a two-out double then sprinted home on a Nicholas single.

E-Train reliver LHP Wesley Wright escaped a major jam in the sixth inning. After Webster issued a leadoff walk to RF Mark Canha, Round Rock skipper Jason Wood opted to bring in the lefty. Wright promptly walked 1B Matt Olson and Nunez to create a bases-loaded situation with no outs. Following a Matt Chapman sacrifice fly that scored Canha, Wright retired the final two batters in order to limit the damage to just one run.

With RHP Tanner Scheppers on to pitch, Sounds 2B Joey Wendle lined a solo home run just over the right field fence to cut the Express lead to 5-3.

However, the E-Train scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to regain a four-run lead. SS Jurickson Profar notched his first hit of the year with Round Rock, a line drive double to left field to open the frame. After a Guzman single, Hoying worked a walk to load the bases. Nicholas then poked a sacrifice fly to right field that left just enough time for Profar to score. A Cesar Puello groundout allowed Guzman to record the team's seventh and final run of the night.

Game three of the series is scheduled for Thursday night. Round Rock RHP Eddie Gamboa (2-1, 5.26) is slated to take the mound against Nashville RHP Chris Smith (1-1, 2.18). First pitch on Star Wars Night at Dell Diamond is set for 7:05 p.m.
