Roughnecks Take Next Step

ODESSA, TX. After a very successful open tryout this past weekend, Roughnecks Head Coach Chris Williams officially announced today, the hiring of Laurence Fisher as the team's Assistant Head Coach. The two met over the weekend during the tryouts and completed negotions bringing Fisher to Odessa as a major part of the football staff. "We wanted to spend some time together face-to-face and make certain that this was the right fit both for coach Fisher and the team. I was very pleased with the quality of person he is and his resume speaks for itself in regards to his abilities as a coach." commented Chris Williams. While Williams concentration will be on the offensive side of the football, Fisher specializes in defense and will focus most of his energy in this area.

Lawrence Fisher, married to Melanie and expecting their first child in March, joins the team from Clearwater, Florida. He boasts lengthy experience as a player and a coach, at the intercollegiate and professional levels. As a player Lawrence played for Eastern Michigan University, then moved on to play professionally for both the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Hamilton TigerCats of the Canadian Football League. In the coaching realm, Lawrence has worn many hats; from a high school coach, to quest coach, to head coach as well as runningback, defensive backs, and linebacker coach. In addition to the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL and Vasa Vikings of York University, Lawrence has experience in Maine, Delaware and with Cheney in American collegiate football. "God has blessed the path that brought me to Odessa and the IFL, two organizations that I am very impressed with. I look forward to getting into town full time as the season approaches and working on bringing a championship to Odessa." stated Fisher.

Additional coaches will be hired over the upcoming weeks to complete the staff, and will consist of all local candidates. Interested coaches should apply at the teams offices. A second player tryout will also be held in search of local talent and will take place towards the end of March.
