San Antonio Missions News Release

A monster night at the plate by Viosergy Rosa powered Midland to a 9-2 win over San Antonio in Game 1 of the Texas League South Division Series Wednesday at Wolff Stadium.

The Missions took the field Wednesday evening in their first playoff action since a 2013 title run. On the bump was Enyel De Los Santos, who had struggled against Midland earlier this season before correcting his issues. Unfortunately in Game 1, the three-time defending champions regained their mighty form against the talented righty.

After stranding runners in both of his first two innings, De Los Santos ran into more trouble in the third. This time however, the RockHounds took advantage of their opportunities as Rosa drove in the game's first three runs with a blast to right. An inning later, Rosa upped the Midland lead to five with a two-run double to right.

San Antonio could not touch top prospect A.J. Puk in his four innings of work. The 6'7 lefty allowed just two hits and four walks, while punching out eight.

Midland added another run in the fifth when catcher Sean Murphy took De Los Santos deep to left. De Los Santos (0-1) allowed 10 hits and five of his six runs were earned. The right-hander did fan seven on the night, throwing 68 of his 100 pitches for strikes.

The Missions would gain a little momentum in their half of the fifth against reliever Joel Seddon (1-0). With the bases loaded and two outs, Ty France ripped a single into right, scoring two and trimming the deficit to 6-2. Seddon would avoid further trouble when he got Nick Torres to bounce out to second.

Rosa would ruin any idea of a San Antonio comeback in the sixth against reliever Yimmi Brasoban when he followed a Max Schrock walk and a Jermaine Curtis single with a mammoth dinger to right. The Texas League RBI leader (110) in 2017, finished with eight in Game 1.

Game 2 of the South Division Series is slated for Thursday at 7:05 PM. Thursday will be a Mission Mitsubishi Dollar Night presented by News 4 San Antonio and Cox Media Group. TL wins leader Brett Kennedy (13-7, 3.70) will get the ball for the Missions in Game 2, while the 'Hounds counter with fellow righty James Naile (2-3, 3.21). Thursday night's contest will also feature a special jersey auction and post-game fireworks show courtesy of the American Heart Association.
