Rolston Sets off OT Celebration
February 7, 2020 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
For the third time in five games, the Waterloo Black Hawks went to overtime, and Friday at Young Arena, Ryder Rolston's goal was the difference in a 2-1 victory against the Fargo Force.
Fargo had the first two shots and better possession during the first three minutes of extra time, but the Hawks flipped momentum as play continued.
With a minute left in the extra frame, Luke Bast's 50-foot pass sprang Joe Cassetti into the Fargo zone, two-on-one. Moving on right wing, Cassetti flipped the puck across the slot to Rolston, leaving Brennan Boynton with little chance to make a post-to-post save on Rolston's blast.
Waterloo is now 7-2 in overtime or shootout decisions. Friday's result was the Hawks' 15th win by a one-goal margin this season.
The first period had included five combined power plays, but just 13 total shots and no goals. The third would be similarly scoreless with one power play chance for each side.
The Hawks broke through in the second period at 5:13. Ondrej Psenicka forced a turnover in the Fargo zone and fed Matthew Argentina in the slot. Argentina's first shot was blocked, but when he controlled the rebound, it left him with an open net. Argentina's goal was his second in as many games.
The Force tied it on a rush by Casey McDonald at 11:55. McDonald's goal was created by Carter Randklev's effort to move the puck through the neutral zone on left wing, before saucering a pass to the slot.
It's the same two teams at Young Arena Saturday for another 7:05 matchup. Waterloo's 2020 John Deere jerseys will be auctioned after the game to benefit Cedar Valley Angels, and tickets are $8 for John Deere employees and their families. To order your seats, call the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680.
