Rockies Offense Roll in Victory over PaddleHeads

July 29, 2021 - Pioneer League (PL) - Missoula PaddleHeads News Release

Missoula, MT. - The Missoula PaddleHeads kicked off a six-game slate opposite the Grand Junction Rockies on Wednesday evening at Allegiance Field at Ogren Park. The Rockies came into the game as the hottest team in the Southern Division finishing with a 7-2 record in their first nine games in the second half. Grand Junction would play like a confident bunch Wednesday leading most of the way in a 11-6 win.

The PaddleHeads would draw first blood in the game in the bottom of the second inning as Jose Reyes knocked in a run on a double to make the score 1-0. It would prove to be a small blip on the map for Grand Junction however as the Rockies would not trail for long.

Grand Junction would race out in front in the third inning thanks to a 5-run rally that made the score 5-1. 2- run singles from Dondrei Hubbard, and Josh Elvir would do the bulk of the damage. It would only be the beginning for Elvir who would go on to have a fantastic night at the plate.

Elvir would homer in both the fifth, and eighth inning to extend the Rockies advantage. The Texas native would finish the game 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs.

Missoula would show fight in the sixth inning cutting the Rockies lead to 7-6 with a two-run rally. Singles from Nick Gatewood, and Aaron Bond would bring the runs home for the PaddleHeads as they went on the comeback trail. It would prove to not be enough however as the Rockies would outscore Missoula 4-0 the rest of the way.

Zach Almond would have a solid night in a losing effort finishing 2-for-5 with a double, and a home run. The home run for Almond gave him 15 on the season which ranks second in the Pioneer League. The North Carolina native would finish the game 2-for-5 with 2 RBIs and a run scored.

Grand Junction (34-23) kept its roll in the second half of the Pioneer League season going with the victory Wednesday. The Rockies hold a four-game advantage in the second half in the south and have won their last 4 games overall. Missoula (41-17) will look to bounce back in game 2 of the series on Thursday evening.
