Rock Punish Roughnecks 16-10 and Retire Colin Doyle's Number 7

Toronto, ON - The Toronto Rock (6-4) retired Colin Doyle's number 7 in an emotional and heart-felt ceremony before the game and then defeated the Calgary Roughnecks (4-7) by a score of 16-10 in front of 10,370 fans on Saturday night at Air Canada Centre. Brett Hickey led the Rock with five goals, including a couple that you'll see on the week's highlight reels. His third quarter jaw-dropper was scored from behind the Roughnecks goal. Tom Schreiber had four goals and four assists.
"It was nice for the guys to get rewarded," said Rock Head Coach Matt Sawyer of his offence. "We've been stressing consistency, we haven't got the results we wanted in the last couple of games but we're happy with the direction we're going. So from that stand point it's good to see the boys rewarded."
Tom Schreiber opened the scoring with his 14th goal of the season at 7:26 of the first quarter. Damon Edwards followed that up with a transition goal 35 seconds later. Sandy Chapman's first of the season put the Rock up 3-0 on a great second effort as he scooped a loose ball out of the Calgary crease at 14:09.
Curtis Dickson cut the Rock lead by one, less than a minute into the second with a power play goal. The Rock held their ground and took a 5-1 lead, capitalizing twice on Scott Carnegie's illegal body-checking major.
It was an active third period with a lot of goals scored on both sides. Stephan Leblanc and Greg Harnett traded goals to start the quarter. Calgary starter Frankie Scigliano appeared to make a save on a shot that never came but Kieran McArdle's quick release on the blocked shot beat him anyway. Leblanc's second made it 8-2 at 4:34. The Roughnecks showed a little life in the latter part of the quarter, countering each Rock tally with their own. Curtis Dickson, Schreiber, Wesley Berg, and Hickey all scored in succession. Dane Dobbie and Berg scored for Calgary, but Schreiber and Hickey stopped the Roughnecks run with two goals in a row, for a 12-6 Rock lead after three.
Jeff Shattler and Dickson made quick work of Rock penalties in the third with power play goals, but tallies from Leblanc and McArdle, and two more from Hickey, sealed the win. Two late goals from Calgary made no difference.
