Rochester Red Wings News Release
Durham Bulls (24-15) @ Rochester Red Wings (15-24)
Frontier Field - Rochester, NY - 7:05 p.m.
RHP Jake Odorizzi (4-0, 2.97) vs. RHP Cole De Vries (NR)
TODAY'S GAME: The Red Wings fell behind 4-0 early Tuesday and missed several opportunities to tie or take the lead late as they fell 7-4 in game one to the Durham Bulls (Rays). Game 2 between the two clubs is set for 7:05 p.m. tonight. The Wings look to right the ship at home having dropped 4 of the first 5 games on this 8-game homestand and have fallen back into last place in the IL North -- 9.0 games back of Buffalo and Pawtucket. Meanwhile, the Bulls are tied atop the International League wild card standings after last night's win.
WITH A WIN TONIGHT, THE WINGS WILL...:
-Avoid falling 10 games below .500 for the first time this season and for the first time since May 28, 2012.
-Avoid matching a season-long 3-game home losing streak (4/15-4/17 & 4/30-5/11)
BULLED OVER: The Durham Bulls claimed the 2012 season series against the Red Wings, 6-2. The Bulls outscored the Red Wings 34-18 and out-hit them 65-38 in taking 3 of 4 from Rochester at Frontier Field. The last time the Wings won a series against the Bulls at home was 2008 (3-1) -- the same year of their last season series win over Durham (5-3)... Since 2003, Rochester is now just 33-47 against Durham, including a 19-21 mark at Frontier Field.
-The Red Wings are winless in 15 all-time series (0-8-7) at Durham Bulls Athletic Park
THE BAHAMA BREEZE: The newest Red Wing, Antoan Richardson, a native of the Bahamas, went 3-for-4 with a walk, 2 runs scored and a stolen base last night in just his second game with the Wings. After leading the Eastern League with 14 stolen bases at the time of his promotion, Richardson now has 15 total swipes on the year -- 10 more than any other Red Wings player (Thomas & Farris have 5 SB each)... After recording hits in each of his first 2 games with the Wings, Richardson now owns a 25-game on-base streak between New Britain (AA) and Rochester over which he is hitting .383 (34-for-94) with 17 walks.
RISP WOES: The Wings were just 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position on Tuesday and left 12 men on base... They were 8-for-20 in their previous two games after Saturday's doubleheader in which they went just 3-for-21 with RISP... Rochester is last in the league w/ RISP hitting .194 (70-for-360) and last with RISP & 2 out batting .135 (22-for-163). Rochester is 13th in the league with the bases loaded hitting .171 (7-for-41)... The Wings have missed the clutch hitting of Clete Thomas who is hitting .455 (10-for-22) with 4 extra-base hits and 12 RBI with RISP but has been sidelined by a quad injury the last few games.
STILL STREAKIN': 2B Eric Farris extended his hit streak to a season-high 8 games with a two-out double in the 9th inning after entering the game as a pinch-hitter (K) in the 7th inning... Over the streak, Farris is hitting .370 (10-for-27) with a 3B, 2B, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI. The double was also the first and only extra-base hit of the night for the Red Wings, extending their streak of recording at least one extra-base hit to 23 games.
-Last season, Farris' had a season-high 11-game hit streak 8/17-8/27 with Nashville... His career-high is 15 games in 2008
-The longest extra-base streak for the Wings last season was 38 games from May 4-June 11
DE VRIES REHABS TODAY: Minnesota Twins RHP Cole De Vries is set to make a rehab start with the Red Wings tonight. De Vries has missed the first month-and-a-half of the season after hitting the disabled list with a strained right forearm on April 7. This will be the 28-year-old's 3rd rehab start after appearances with Ft. Myers (4 ip, 2r, er) and New Britain (5 ip, 5r, 2er, 2 hr). A Minnesota native, De Vries made his Major League debut last season with the Twins going 5-5 with a 4.11 ERA in 17 games (16 starts). He has appeared with the Red Wings in each of the past three seasons posting a 7-10 mark with a 4.39 ERA in 51 career games (17 starts).
-De Vries went 2-0 with a 3.65 ERA (15 ER/37.0 IP) in 6 GS at home last season... Just 1-5, 5.18 ERA in 6 road starts.
CLUBBIN' COLABELLO: After going 2-for-5 last night, Red Wings 1B Chris Colabello has climbed to 9th in the league in hitting (.329), T-5th in HR (8), 4th in total bases (83), T-3rd in hits (47) and 7th in OPS (.957)... He's hit in 15 of the last 16 games (.364; 24-for-66) and has recorded a hit in 79% (31 of 39) of games this season. Colabello is also the only Red Wing to start and play in every game so far this season.
