Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC: The Greenville Road Warriors announced today the team has reached an affiliation agreement with the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers and the AHL's Adirondack Phantoms. The Flyers and Phantoms, along with the New York Rangers and Hartford Wolfpack, will serve as the team's primary affiliates for the 2013-14 season.
"We are very pleased to be affiliated once again with the Greenville Road Warriors," said Flyers Assistant General Manager Barry Hanrahan. "We have a good working relationship with Coach Stork and look forward to our young players continuing to develop under his guidance."
The Road Warriors were previously affiliated with the Flyers and Phantoms during the 2010-11 Season. Greenville also received several players from the Flyers organization during the 2011-12 Season. The most notable Flyers contracted player to don the Road Warriors jersey was defensemen Marc-Andre Bourdon. The Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec native skated in 15 games for the Road Warriors during the 2010-11 regular season and playoffs. Early the next season, Bourdon became the first Road Warriors alumnus to play in an NHL game, when he was called up to the Flyers in November. Bourdon played in 45 total games for the Flyers that season, tallying four goals and three assists to go along with 52 penalty minutes.
"We're thrilled to be partnering with a first-class organization like the Flyers," said Road Warriors General Manager Chris Lewis. "We look forward to working to prepare Flyers prospects for a career in hockey and potentially a future in the NHL. This affiliation will help us to provide a competitive atmosphere for player development and a successful team for our fans."
"I am very excited to have the Philadelphia Flyers back on board with us here in Greenville," said Road Warriors Head Coach Dean Stork. "I look forward to developing their young prospects into strong players within their system. They are a powerhouse NHL franchise and we should get a good group of players to help us achieve our number one goal of bringing a championship to Greenville."
During the one year affiliation, the Road Warriors also helped develop several players who went on to success with the Phantoms. Defensemen Cullen Eddy spent part of two seasons in Greenville. Following the 2011-12 year, Eddy's impressive played earned him an NHL contract with the Flyers. Forward Shane Harper spent most his 2010-11 season in Greenville, putting up 22 goals and 23 assists in 48 games. Harper went on to up 37 points in 118 games over the next two seasons with the Phantoms.
