The previous high water mark was the 7,203 in attendance for the 2003-04 home opener versus the Fort Worth Brahmas. RIVERKINGS HOLD TIGHT TO SECOND IN COACHES POLL
The CHL released it's first Coaches Poll since January 4 and not much has changed. The top four teams all remained put with Colorado on top followed by the RiverKings, Laredo and Bossier-Shreveport. Corpus Christi has moved up from 7th to round out the top five. The full poll and accompanying release can be found at www.centralhockeyleague.com.
RIVERKINGS ACQUIRE DEFENSEMAN MacIVER, TESSIER TO BE MOVED TO 45 DAY IR
The RiverKings acquired defenseman Doug MacIver from the Austin Ice Bats on Monday. MacIver comes to the RiverKings as completion of an earlier trade for future considerations between the clubs. Head Coach Keving McClelland also announced that defenseman Jason Tessier will be moved from the 14-day to the 45-day IR, opening the roster spot for MacIver. Tessier suffered a groin injury versus Colorado on January 12. MacIver brings good size at 6-foot-5 and 223 pounds and is in his fifth season of professional hockey. He played six games with the Ice Bats after signing with the team in November, picking up an assist and 21 penalty minutes before going on the IR list. The King City, Ontario native has played mostly in the ECHL. He has played in 177 pro games, all but eight in the ECHL, and has scored 21 points (six goals, 15 assists) and accumulated 794 penalty minutes. He started this season in training camp with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs before signing with the Ice Bats.
RIVERKINGS HERE AND THERE
The RiverKings' current 10 game winning streak is now the second longest in franchise history. The team has won nine in a row on two different occasions: once in the 2000-2001 season and once in the 2001-02 season. The 10 game streak is also the second longest this season in the CHL, behind Colorado's 15 gamer the RiverKings snapped on 1/12
The RiverKings penalty kill has now killed off 50 of the last 54 opponents' power plays. That computes to 93%.
Phil Aucoin's goal on Tuesday gives him a five game point streak. He has 3 goals and 3 assists in that time. In Saturday's game, he picked up career assist number 100.
Ryan Campbell had an 8 game point streak snapped on Tuesday. He had a team high 10 game streak earlier this season. In fact, Campbell has at least a point in 18 of his last 20 games.
Defenseman Bobby Gates is on a career high 4 game point streak (1-3-4),
The RiverKings record of 27-6-3 is the best the team has ever been through 36 games of a season. In the 2001-2002 season when the team finished 46-14-4, they were 27-7-2 at this point of the season.
Forward Derek Campbell has a goal in 5 of the last 8 games.
Defenseman Derek Landmesser had his team leading 10th multi-assist game with two in Tuesday's win.
Kevin Schieve's start between the pipes in Saturday's shutout win over Odessa broke a 28 game streak where Larry Sterling was the starting goaltender. The RiverKings went 22-5-1 during that span.
The RiverKings have played the most number of home games to date in the CHL with 23. The next closest is Laredo's 21. After this Saturday's game versus Oklahoma City, the RiverKings will have just 8 home games remaining in the regular season.
The RiverKings have led a game after one period of play a league high 18 times this season and second most 19 times after 3 periods in their 36 games.
