April 7, 2013 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Charleston RiverDogs News Release

GREENVILLE, SC - Charleston RiverDogs starter Gabe Encinas tossed six shut-out innings, allowing only one hit as the RiverDogs (2-2) defeated the Greenville Drive (2-2) by a final of 5-0 Sunday afternoon at Fluor Field at the West End in Greenville, SC.

Encinas (1-0) was phenomenal in his RiverDogs debut picking up the win. Encinas was relieved by RHP Brett Gerritse (0-1), who settled in and rebounded from his rough outing just a couple days ago. Gerritse threw one shutout inning in relief. RHP Taylor Garrison entered in the eighth and sat down all six batters he faced.

Offensively, 1B Gregory Bird and 2B Rob Refsnyder picked-up the slack at the plate. Bird finished 3-for-4 with a pair of singles and a home-run, while Refsndyer went 3-for-4 with three basehits. Dante Bichette Jr. added a two-run homerun late for the RiverDogs and DH Kelvin DeLeon added a solo shot as well. It was the first homerun for each. Catcher Peter O'Brien was ejected in the top-of-the sixth inning for arguing balls and strikes following a strikeout.

Greenville starter LHP Brian Johnson (0-1) only lasted four innings, allowing one run on six hits, while striking out two and walking one.

Greenville could only muster three hits all afternoon against Charleston's sparkling pitching.

Charleston will continue their road trip as they head north to face the West Virginia Power for three games beginning Monday evening. The RiverDogs will piggy-back starters, going with RHP Vicente Campos (NR) and LHP Evan Rutckyj (NR), and West Virginia counters with RHP Tyler Glasnow (NR). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and you can listen to the game live locally on 910 AM "The Zone" or by visiting www.riverdogs.com .
