RiverDogs Remain Unbeaten

Richmond RiverDogs News Release


The Richmond RiverDogs extended their season opening winning streak to four games with a pair of wins at the Coliseum last week. Richmond is the only unbeaten club left in the United Hockey League. The RiverDogs, with eight points, are in a first place tie with Flint in the Eastern Conference.

Friday, November 7 @ Flint 7:30 PM

GAME NOTES: The first of eight meetings, four at Flint. The Generals are led by Kevin Kerr who is closing in on Scott Gruhl's career minor league record for goals. Kerr has 643. Gruhl's record is 663. Flint is 4-1. Generals goalie Dan MacIntyre leads the UHL with a 1.33 goals against average in three games.

Saturday, November 8 @ Port Huron 7:05 PM

GAME NOTES: The first of eight meetings, four at Port Huron. The Beacons are led by Brent Gretzky who is tops in the UHL with seven goals. Port Huron is 3-1-1. Gretzky and the Beacons Benoit Genesse are part of a five way tie for the UHL lead in scoring. The Beacons have won three in a row.

Sunday, November 9 @ Adirondack 6:00 PM

GAME NOTES: The second of 19 meetings, the second of 10 in Glens Falls. ‘Dogs beat the IceHawks 4-3 on 10/25. J.J. Wrobel scored two goals for the RiverDogs. Dave Shields scored the game-winner. Sylvain Cloutier scored twice for Adirondack. ‘Dogs out-shot the IceHawks 15-6 in the third period.

Friday, October 31 vs. Muskegon WIN 8-5

GAME NOTES: The ‘Dogs blew the game open with three goals late in the second period to win their home opener. The two clubs combined for 237 penalty minutes, most of that stemming from a third period brawl. Jay Murphy had a goal and three assists. Kevin St. Jacques had six assists and was plus-five. Derek Schutz and J.J. Wrobel added two goals.

Saturday, November 1 vs. Muskegon WIN 5-3

GAME NOTES: The ‘Dogs rallied after trailing in the third period for the first time this season. Richmond snapped a power play slump with a pair of power play goals in just over two minutes in the third to win it. Jay Murphy scored the game-winner. Sandy Lamarre added three assists.

DOG BITES: The RiverDogs have scored 13 goals in their last two games. Richmond opens a four game road trip Friday. The 'Dogs play three games in three nights in three cities this weekend. Richmond plays six games in nine days starting Friday. Jay Murphy has points in four straight games. Dave Shields has points in three straight games. Kevin St. Jacques had a three game scoring streak end Saturday. St. Jacques had six assists Friday vs. Muskegon. Murphy has a goal in all four games. Murphy has scored the game-winning goal in the 'Dogs last two wins. J.J. Wrobel has five goals in the last three games. The 'Dogs snapped an 0-16 power play slump with two power play goals in the third period Saturday at Muskegon. Richmond trailed in the third period for the first time in a game this season Saturday vs. the Fury. All three of Dave Shields goals have come on special teams (two shorthanded, one power play). The 'Dogs streak of games with shorthanded goals ended at three Saturday. Derek Schutz has four points in his last two games. Sandy Lamarre had three assists vs. Muskegon Saturday. The RiverDogs and Fury combined for 237 penalty minutes Friday and 26 Saturday. The ‘Dogs have been out-shot in three of four games. Richmond now has three players on Injured Reserve: Mark Cody (moved to 21 Day-IR), Olivier Fillion (moved to 14 Day-IR), and Paul Johnson (placed on 7 Day-IR). The ‘Dogs have yet to play a game with a full compliment of skaters. The ‘Dogs lead the UHL in goals per game (5.00) and in penalty minutes (56.2). St. Jacques leads the league in assists (seven). He and Murphy are tied for second in scoring (eight points). Wrobel is tied for third in the league in goals with five. Darren Wetherill is plus-eight in four games.
