Charleston RiverDogs News Release

Back on July 8, 2002 the Charleston RiverDogs made national news with their "Nobody Night" promotion as the club successfully set a record for the lowest attendance: Zero.

That wacky promotion, among many other from the world of Minor League Baseball, is being revived today (Tuesday) on ESPN's "First Take" that airs on ESPN2 at 10am-noon and again from noon-2 pm.

On that crazy night where the gates were padlocked, everybody except employees, scouts and media was barred from entering Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

The RiverDogs, then an affiliate of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, continued their tradition of outlandish promotions, turned fans away and sent them to a party with discounted food and beer just outside the ballpark.

Hundreds of fans gathered outside the main gate waiting to be let in once the game was declared official and the actual attendance was recorded as zero.

The Columbus Red Stixx beat the RiverDogs, 4-2. All the runs were scored before the fans were let in fifth inning, when the game became official.

As soon as the fans entered the stadium children scoured the stands searching for unclaimed foul balls.
