Charleston RiverDogs News Release
(Charleston-SC)- The Charleston RiverDogs open a six-game homestand tonight at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park, beginning a week full of baseball at the stadium.
With high school playoffs in action and the college season in full swing, the RiverDogs have quietly been surging towards the top of the Southern Division of the South Atlantic League. Coming off a 3-1 road trip, Charleston will meet division foes Capital City and Asheville this week at "The Joe."
The first place Capital City Bombers, affiliate of the New York Mets, enter town having lost four of their last five, including back-to-back games to the RiverDogs, Saturday and Sunday in Columbia. Monday marks the first "Dogs with a Cause" night, featuring Family Connection of South Carolina. Family Connection is a non-profit organization that provides a support network for families with children who have special needs. Members from the organization will be at Riley Park to raise awareness and promote the cause.
Celebrity Incarceration Night falls on a 96 Wave Two-for-Tuesday. The Citadel plays Savannah State at 4 p.m. followed by the RiverDogs and Bombers. Fans can have their James Brown mug shots taken, decorate Martha Stewart's jail cell, or simply wear a white glove around the ballpark.
Cinco de Mayo marks a festive Wednesday night. It's Hats Off to Teachers Night, as the RiverDogs honor the outstanding educators of the Lowcountry. It's also a Curves Mom's Night Out. Moms will be pampered all night long as the RiverDogs meet the Asheville Tourists at 7:05 p.m.
Judge Extreme Akim visits Riley Park Thursday for Extreme Akim Night. Fans will have the opportunity to meet the judge from the popular television show "Eye for an Eye." Judge Akim will hear a case between RiverDogs mascot Charlie, and his nemesis Crowley. Character witnesses will testify in the trial, including other area mascots. After the game, the Judge will render his verdict and the sentence, on a Wild Wing Café Thirsty Thursday.
Sprint Friday Night Fireworks will illuminate the sky May 7 following the RiverDogs and Asheville Tourists. The Citadel takes on Furman at 5 p.m. with the RiverDogs in action beginning at 8:05 p.m. It is also Get Caught Reading Night, with RiverDogs and South Carolina Stingrays players reading to children before the game.
The first 1,000 fans through the gates Saturday, May 8 will receive a t-shirt courtesy of Lord & Evans Paints. Saturday's are giveaway nights at Riley Park. The RiverDogs game is scheduled to begin at 8:05 p.m., following the Citadel and Furman at 5 p.m.
