River Otters Sign NHL’ers Jamal Mayers and Bryce Salvador

St. Charles, MO --- The Missouri River Otters of the United Hockey League are proud to announce that they have signed forward Jamal Mayers, who has played 354 games with the St. Louis Blues, and defenseman Bryce Salvador, who has played 281 games with the Blues. Both players will make their River Otter debuts Sunday afternoon against the Port Huron Beacons at the Family Arena.

“These additions will bring tremendous depth and leadership to our line-up,” River Otters Head Coach Kevin Kaminski said. “They both have a intense passion for the game and are excited to get back on the ice.”

Mayers, 30, has scored 36 goals, added 47 assists, and amassed 447 penalty minutes in 354 games with the Blues. The right winger’s most productive NHL season was in 2000-01 when he registered eight goals and dished out 13 assists. The 6’0’’, Toronto-native began his NHL career in 1996-97 after spending four years at Western Michigan University. The Blues drafted him in the fourth round of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.

“Jamal’s brings great speed, grit, and a terrific work ethic on and off the ice,” Kaminski said. “He’ll especially be an asset for us on special teams, particularly the penalty kill.”

Salvador, 29, has scored twelve goals, added 28 assists, and piled up 289 penalty minutes in 281 games with the Blues. The defenseman’s most productive NHL season was in 2000-01 when he fired home five goals and registered seven assists. He played five seasons (1992-97) with the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the Western Hockey League before being drafted in the sixth round of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft by St. Louis.

“Bryce brings great stability to our defense corps,” Kaminski said. “He is the type of player that makes everyone around them better.”
