Riders Bringing in Biggest Collection of Celebs in Team History
FRISCO, Texas - From the dad constantly annoyed by Urkel to the man who tutored Forrest Gump on the art of shrimpin' to the boy who won the heart of Wendy Peffercorn with the most diabolical plan ever conceived at a public pool, nostalgia won't be lacking in Frisco this season.
If any of those iconic characters ring a bell, you won't want to miss the parade of celebrities joining the Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, this season as part of the BIGGEST promotional schedule in baseball history.
What better way than to celebrate First Responders & Community Night presented by Operation Blue Shield on Saturday, June 30 than to salute an actor synonymous with the police force. Reggie VelJohnson is forever tied to Officer Carl Winslow from Family Matters and Sgt. Al Powell from the Die Hard movie franchise. First Responders & Community Night includes a special Meet & Greet with VelJohnson. Fans also have the opportunity to submit names of first responders to be incorporated into the design of that night's jersey (details to come).
While life is often like a box of chocolates, you know exactly what you're going to get on Tribute to Forrest Gump Night. On Friday, June 29, Mykelti Williamson, the scene-stealing "Bubba," joins Riders fans in remembering the Oscar-decorated 1994 film that took us on a ride through 20th century American history. Fans can share their favorite shrimp recipes with Williamson during the public Meet & Greet. Fans legally named "Jenny" can show their IDs at the Riders Box Office to receive one free ticket to the game. Be on the lookout for a Forrest look-a-like running laps around the ballpark raising money for charity, a ping pong tournament in the State Fairway and Lt. Dan ice cream specials. And, of course, concession stands will be stocked with a variety of shrimp options, all Bubba approved.
You're killing me, Smalls! On Saturday, June 9, Salute to Sandlot Night welcomes Chauncey Leopardi, who as "Squints," the bespectacled member of the neighborhood baseball crew in The Sandlot, faked drowning at the pool to sneak one in on the prettiest lifeguard around. They wound up married ... with nine kids. Sandlot Night features an in-game Leopardi Meet & Greet, our very own team dog Brooks dressed as "The Beast," s'mores at concession stands, a PF Flyers giveaway autographed by Squints, Big League Chew given out as prizes and, fittingly, a Wendy Peffercorn look-a-like on lifeguard duty at the Choctaw Lazy River.
On Saturday, August 18, the Riders get you ready for another school year with Back to School Night featuring Peyton List, who played "Emma Ross" on Disney Channel's Jessie. Before the bell rings, Riders players will share their favorite school memories. Fans are encouraged to bring school supplies to donate to the Frisco RoughRiders Foundation Back to School Supply Drive benefitting local students. And don't be tardy, as the first 1,000 kids (12 and under) through the Dr Pepper Ballpark gates will receive a free backpack courtesy of Bluewood.
Luke Pell from The Bachelorette and The Bachelor Winter Games is used to having his love life in the spotlight. On Thursday, April 19, Pell, now a breakout country musician, brings his rose to the ballpark when he makes a special appearance at the Deep Ellum Brewing Party @ The Yard. Fans are encouraged to snap a selfie with Pell and get an autograph during his public Meet & Greet session.
As previously announced, Dude Perfect Night on Friday, July 20, brings the YouTube sensations to a RoughRiders game for the first time to interact with fans and take part in promotions all night long.
