NEW YORK, Sept. 27, 2012 - Connecticut Sun guard Renee Montgomery is the winner of the 2012 WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year presented by Boost Mobile, the league announced today. Montgomery received 23 votes from a national panel of 41 sportswriters and broadcasters to earn the award. San Antonio Silver Stars teammates forward/center Danielle Adams (nine) and guard Jia Perkins (six) placed second and third, respectively.
The honor marked the first time in four seasons in the league that Montgomery was named the league's top Sixth Woman.
In honor of being named the Sixth Woman of the Year presented by Boost Mobile, Montgomery will receive $5,000 and a specially-designed trophy from Tiffany & Co.
In 34 games this season, Montgomery averaged 11.6 points, 3.4 assists and shot .848 from the free throw line. Known for her energetic play, she also ranked second on the Sun in three categories - three point percentage (.364), assists (2.6 apg) and blocks (0.9 bpg)
