Reign FC Face University of Washington in First Preseason Match
Seattle - Seattle Reign FC continue their 2018 Preseason Presented by UW Medicine with their annual match against the University of Washington (UW). This will be the fifth straight year Reign FC have faced the UW, and they will look to continue their perfect 4-0-0 record against the Huskies.
Fans will be able to attend the match for free, but a $5 donation to the Austen Everett Foundation (AEF) is suggested. AEF works to inspire, empower, and embolden the lives of kids battling cancer by uniting the fight of these extraordinary individuals with professional and collegiate athletic teams. Fans will also be able to enter a raffle benefiting the AEF.
Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. PT at Husky Soccer Stadium on the University of Washington campus. The match will not be live streamed, but fans can follow live play-by-play at Reign FC's official Twitter feed, @ReignFC.
Reign FC entered the preseason with a revitalized roster, bringing in eleven new players and hiring a new head coach, two-time NWSL Champion Vlatko Andonovski. Reign FC will look to build on their efforts over the past two weeks by delivering a strong performance in Thursday's match. Reign FC will be without 8 players who are on international duty, including USWNT forward Megan Rapinoe and Welsh international Jess Fishlock, giving Reign FC a chance to showcase the depth of its squad. Reign FC veteran forwards Nahomi Kawasumi and Bev Yanez, defender Lauren Barnes, and Reign FC original Kiersten Dallstream are all expected to feature in the match. This will be the first chance for fans to see some of the new additions to the Reign FC squad, including Megan Oyster, Elizabeth Addo, Morgan Andrews and Christen Westphal - all acquired from Boston in the dispersal draft - as well as forward Jasmyne Spencer, who was acquired in a trade with the Orlando Pride, and defender Yael Averbuch, who was acquired in a trade with the Utah Royals.
"I'm really pleased with the progress the squad has made during the first weeks of camp. The mentality has been good and the intensity high, which is exactly what I was looking for," said Seattle Reign FC head coach Vlatko Andonovski. "The UW match will give us a chance to put into practice the things we've been working on - I am excited to see how the squad performs."
The Huskies are coming off a 2017 record of 9-8-3, going 4-4-2 at home. This will be UW's first match of their Spring schedule. The Huskies are led by head coach Lesle Gallimore, who has led the UW women's soccer team since 1994.
Up next, Seattle will travel to California to face UCLA in their second and final match of their preseason. The match will take place on Tuesday, March 13 at 8:00 p.m. PT at the SilverLakes Sports Complex in Norco, CA. Following their trip to California, Reign FC will return home to complete preseason training ahead of their March 24 home opener against the Washington Spirit on the UW Medicine Pitch at Memorial Stadium at 7:00 p.m. PT.
Tickets to the home opener are now available to purchase at www.reignfc.com/tickets or via phone at (855) REIGN-FC.
