Reed Collects League Awards with Historic Tally

March 26, 2021 - NBA G League (G League) - Delaware Blue Coats News Release

Paul Reed will need a trophy case for the heap of awards rolling in after the conclusion of the 2020-21 NBA G League season.

Monday, Reed was named both the NBA G League's Rookie of the Year and the league's Most Valuable Player. Tuesday, he was named to the NBA G League First Team, the All-Rookie team, and the All-Defense team for his outstanding performance this season.

Reed said that he is appreciative and humbled to receive all of the honors, and his teammates on the 76ers have been congratulating him on his achievements.

"It feels great," he said. "They have been celebrating, they have been embracing it, they've been hyping my head up, that's why I've got to stay grounded, I've got to stay humbled," said Reed.

Celebration is definitely warranted. The two way-contract player is signed with the Blue Coats and the Philadelphia 76ers and is the only player to achieve all of these accomplishments simultaneously in franchise history.

Reed is the third G League player to ever land both MVP and ROY in the same season. Devin Brown achieved both awards in the 2002-03 season with the Fayetteville Patriots and so did Tim Frazier in 2014-15 with the Marine Red Claws.

After leading the Blue Coats to their first play-off appearance in franchise history, the 21-year-old Reed finished his debut season with an average of 22.3 points, 11.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.8 blocks, .588 percent from the field and .444 percent from 3-point range.

Reed said that playing with the Blue Coats in the G League this season has been a great experience for him.

"Playing in the G League, it really helped me boost my confidence and get better a lot, so the awards, that's just coming from the hard work I've put in and, it showed me what hard work gets me," he said.

Although the Blue Coats fell to the Lakeland Magic in the championship game on March 11, Reed certainly helped make the season a historic one for the Delaware Blue Coats.

Currently, Reed is playing with the 76ers and hopes to bring the same dominance and clear athleticism to the NBA team. He tallied four points, three rebounds and a steal in regular rotation minutes for Thursday's 109-101 win over the Lakers.

Reed said that he is undoubtedly proud of the G League recognitions, but he is also trying to stay focused on his contributions to the 76ers team at the moment.

"I feel good, you know, it's a great accomplishment for sure. For me, I just want to stay grounded and stay focused on tomorrow and today," said Reed. "Just focus on the game, continue to get better every day and continue to improve so I can one day, hopefully, win another one of those awards."

BBall Paul - as he's come to be known - has certainly made a name for himself during this remarkable season for the Blue Coats and he has ensured there's likely much more to come.
