BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Lincoln Stars (14-15-0-1) held on to take a 4-3 shootout win over the Central Illinois Flying Aces (10-18-1-3) on Sunday afternoon at Grossinger Motors Arena.

The Stars have made a habit of scoring the first goal, and Stars forward Collin Peters helped that trend continue at 13:18 on a rebound in the right circle to take a 1-0 lead. The Stars added a second tally at 15:22 when forward Paul Cotter sniped a rebound from the right circle to double the lead, 2-0.

Another goal stretched across for the Stars in the period thanks to defenseman Atte Tuliara on a shot from the right point at 9:10 to triple the lead at 3-0. The Flying Aces found an answer less than one minute later at 9:55 thanks to forward Brady Smith, cutting the lead to two, 3-1.

The Flying Aces started the third period with a power play goal at 0:44 from forward Calen Kiefiuk to draw the home side within one, 3-2. With time winding down, Flying Aces defenseman Mike Callahan tied the game at 3-3 at 18:38 to force overtime. Stars forward Casey Dornbach scored in the opening round of the shootout, but Flying Aces forward Michael Maloney scored in the third round to force an extra attempt. Stars forward Dominick Mersch converted in that round to grab the 4-3 shootout win.

Stars goaltender Derek Schaedig (6-2-1) stopped 35 of 38 in the win including three of four shots in the shootout, while Flying Aces netminder Ryan Snowden (3-8-2) halted 28 of 31 shots in the shootout loss including two of four in the shootout. The Stars finish their season series against the Flying Aces on Monday, Jan. 22 at 11:07 a.m. from Grossinger Motors Arena. Coverage is available on Hockey TV and Stars Online Radio.

The Stars return to the Ice Box on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 7:05 p.m. to host the Omaha Lancers on KFC Family Night.
