Rebuilding IceDogs Fall to Seasoned Firebirds 4-0

The Niagara IceDogs returned to home ice on Thursday night, as the Flint Firebirds paid their only visit to the Meridian Centre of the season. In five seasons, the Firebirds have yet to win a game in Niagara. The IceDogs skated away with a point in the first meeting of the season, against one of the strongest teams in the OHL. Flint is currently sixth in the league, and was ranked in the CHL Top 10.

The IceDogs were in tough against a strong Firebirds teams. Nonetheless, they worked hard to keep pace against Flint. Oliver Castleman had a great opportunity in the slot, and beat the goaltender, but he couldn't beat the post. Isaac Enright made an excellent diving play to keep the puck from going into the net. The Firebirds scored two in the opening frame.

Andrew MacLean flashed the pads, stopping 16 shots on net in the middle frame. Ivan Lodnia had multiple chances on the power play. but couldn't beat the netminder. Cameron Snow and Anthony Agostinelli elevated their play in the middle frame, driving the play into the offensive zone. The Firebirds scored once more in the middle period.

The 'Dogs strong effort was accentuated in the final period of the game, as the Firebirds continued to press hard. Ivan Lodnia tried to work his magic, stickhandling into the Firebirds zone.

Niagara put 26 shots on net, but couldn't get one into the back of the net. One of the CHL's top teams, the Firebirds, was successful 4-0.
