Real Salt Lake Weekly Update: Monday, May 19, 2008

May 19, 2008 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Real Salt Lake News Release

Real Salt Lake (2-4-2, 8 pts.) will tackle the middle game of its three-match road swing this Saturday, May 24, when Utah's side will take its lone trip of the season to Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas, to square off against FC Dallas (2-3-3, 9 pts.) for the second time in as many weeks. Saturday's kick-off from the Lone Star State is slated for 6:30 p.m. MT, with the match airing live on KSL-TV 5 throughout and to be followed by a 30-minute post-game show. Fans can also follow the action live on KALL 700 Sports (English) and Ke Buena 1600 AM (Spanish), with KALL 700 Sports' coverage beginning with RSL First Kick at 5:30 p.m. and continuing with RSL Extra Time at 8:45 p.m.

While Real Salt Lake trails 3-8-1 in its overall series against FC Dallas, it was RSL that struck first in this year's three-game season series on May 10, courtesy of its 2-1 victory at Rice-Eccles Stadium. But the scene in "Big D" has been a different story, with Real Salt Lake dropping all five of its previous road contests against the "Hoops," the last four of which took place at Pizza Hut Park. However, if history is any indication the game will go down to the wire, as eight of the last nine meetings have been determined by one goal, with the other match resulting in a draw.

Real Salt Lake Schedule: May 20-28, 2008 (all times MDT)

All RSL practices are open to members of the media and the general public, with media availability for all players and coaches to immediately follow each session. Those planning on attending any session can confirm the time and location of that day's training by contacting the RSL Communications Department at 801-924-8584.

Beltran & Seitz Named to U.S. U-23 Squad for Toulon International Tournament

Real Salt Lake D/M Tony Beltran and GK Chris Seitz joined their U.S. Under-23 Men's National Team cohorts in France last Friday, giving the 22-man roster its full complement of players heading into this week's opening contests in the Toulon International Tournament, taking place from May 21-29. The Stars-and-Stripes will start off play in the prestigious tournament this Wednesday, May 21, against Turkey (7:30 a.m. MT) before taking on the Ivory Coast on Friday (10:30 a.m. MT) and wrapping up Group B play on Sunday against Italy (10:00 a.m. MT), with coverage of each contest broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel. The 21-year-old Seitz has been a stalwart between the posts for the U-23's since the squad began gathering last fall in preparation for Olympic qualifying, while Beltran will be getting his first look with the U-23's after starting all five contests for the USA at last summer's FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada.

Seitz Named to U.S. Senior MNT Player Pool for Upcoming Friendlies

Seitz is one of five netminders available to U.S. head coach Bob Bradley for the three-game slate, which features matches against three world-class teams - England, Spain, and Argentina. All three of the USA's World Cup qualifying tune-up matches will be broadcast on the ESPN and Univision networks, and fans can follow each game live on ussoccer.com's MatchTracker.

More than 46,000 tickets (buy tickets) have been sold for the USA's final match at Giants Stadium, which will be Presented by Visa®. The USA's final match before the start of the World Cup qualifying campaign will be broadcast live on ESPN Classic and Galavision.

RSL Rewind: Quest for Rocky Mountain Cup Repeat Hits Snag in 2-0 Loss at Rapids

Real Salt Lake saw its chance to sit atop the Western Conference standings slip away in the second half last Thursday at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, as the Colorado Rapids struck twice after the halftime break to post a 2-0 victory in the first of three meetings in this year's Rocky Mountain Cup series. Rapids FW Omar Cummings finished off a well-placed cross from MF Colin Clark to start the scoring in the 65th minute, while a penalty kick conversion by MF Christian Gomez all but sealed RSL's fate in the 83rd minute.
