Real Salt Lake News Release

SANDY, Utah - Real Salt Lake General Manager Craig Waibel announced on Friday that the club has acquired MF Pablo Ruiz ahead of the 2018 season as a Discovery Signing. He will join the club in preseason, pending receipt of his ITC and P-1 visa, and will occupy an international roster spot.

"We've been watching him for quite a while and it's all about timing. It's the right time to bring him in. It's going to take a little while to transition - it's a big change in his life and culture - but we're really excited," Waibel said. "He's a really talented central player and we're challenging the depth of the central part of our team this year."

Ruiz, 19, was born in Argentina and featured for the Argentina U-17 National Team for the U-17 South American Championship and the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2015, but is now set to represent Chile at the senior international level. He started his professional career with San Lorenzo in Argentina, but made the move to San Luis in Chile before making a first team appearance.

He continues a youth movement that includes 14 players aged 23 years old and younger and five that are 20 and under.
