Real Salt Lake Names Dane Murphy Technical Director

SANDY, Utah (Friday, January 12, 2018) - Real Salt Lake today named Dane Murphy the Club's Technical Director, effective immediately, General Manager Craig Waibel announced today. Murphy - a former professional player who has spent the last year as a scout for the Utah-based organization, which now operates three professional clubs (RSL, Utah Royals FC of the NWSL and Real Monarchs SLC of the USL) and a 7,000-player youth Academy in Utah and Arizona across two world-class venues (Rio Tinto Stadium and Zions Bank Real Academy) - today traveled with Waibel, RSL Head Coach Mike Petke, Real Monarchs Asst. GM Dan Egner and others to the annual MLS Combine in advance of next week's 2018 MLS SuperDraft in Philadelphia, in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention.

"Dane has demonstrated an ability to fit in quickly with our culture and understands what each club needs, not only on the field but also in the community," said Waibel, noting that further staff additions and role definitions will be announced during the preseason. "Dane's unique history as a college player at Virginia, his U.S. Open Cup experience with D.C. United, his professional career in Germany and at the New York Cosmos enable him to work across multiple disciplines - talent identification, player/agent negotiation, cap compliance, et cetera - all with the final goal of putting the best possible products on our MLS, NWSL and USL fields."

Connecticut native Murphy has been instrumental in the arrival of several new players to Utah in the last year, since moving to Utah last January as a scout for Real Salt Lake, working alongside former Jamaican international, MLS/RSL veteran and current Head Scout Andy Williams . Murphy assumes the Technical Director position across the competitive side of the rapidly-growing organization, continuing responsibilities on the player identification front, working with both domestic and international player agents in both the men's and women's game. Having spent time as both a player and scout with the NASL New York Cosmos prior to coming to Utah, Murphy's extensive network of professional relationships has paid numerous dividends for the on-field product with RSL, the Monarchs and soon, Utah Royals FC.

"Craig Waibel and (RSL Vice-President of Soccer Administration) Rob Zarkos gave me a lot of leash this year to not only identify talent with Andy Williams, but to travel and meet with agents and players," Murphy explained. "Now as Technical Director, all of these duties are now expanded. Andy's eye for talent and the chemistry we have together and with the rest of the staff to fine-tune our processes should benefit our locker rooms, our on-field performance, and hopefully our connection in the community."

RSL PRESEASON 2018:

Petke and Real Salt Lake kick off the club's state-of-the-art, world-class training existence on Monday, January 22 in Herriman, Utah, at the Zions Bank Real Academy, in advance of preseason trips to warmer climes on Jan. 31 (Tucson) and Feb. 11 (Orlando). 2018 MLS HOME OPENER:

As previously announced, Real Salt Lake opens Rio Tinto Stadium against Western Conference expansion side Los Angeles FC ("LAFC") at 1:30 p.m. MT on Saturday, March 10, kicking off an early-season run with three of its first five games at its Rio Tinto Stadium home, where the Utah-based side has enjoyed a prominent home-field advantage since permanently moving in Sandy, boasting a dominant 105-26-44 mark in the world-class venue since opening in October, 2008.

Individual seats for the March 10 opener, starting at $25 and up depending on location, in the heavily-anticipated kickoff are now on sale, along with 2018 RSL "mini-packs." 2018 TICKETS:

All 2018 packages, which start at just $280 for lower bowl seating, allow extraordinary access to RSL at Rio Tinto Stadium. All 17-game packages include every RSL regular-season game and additional events, which historically have included CONCACAF Champions League participation and/or Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup contests.

The 2018 RSL season - which starts on March 3 at Dallas and ends in late October - boasts a Saturday-heavy home slate, with ZERO Sunday home games - and includes an RSL bye in the 23-team league on the Sun., Oct. 28 MLS "Decision Day" finales - and just two non-holiday midweek home contests (Wed., May 30 v. Houston, and Thurs., Oct. 18 v. New England).
