Reading Scores Program Joins Suncoast Campaign for Grade Level Reading

May 19, 2018 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Bradenton Marauders News Release

Bradenton, Fla. - The Bradenton Marauders have partnered their annual Reading Scores! program with the Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading. The Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading is a communitywide effort to help all children succeed in school and life by ensuring they read on grade level by the end of third grade. Reading Scores! is part of the Campaign with support from The Patterson Foundation, United Way Suncoast, the Manatee County School District, and the Manatee Education Foundation.

Reading Scores! rewards Manatee County students who read six books with two free tickets to a select Marauders game, a coupon for a free pizza from Dominos, a free Kona Ice coupon, and six reading bracelets. Readers may participate multiple times in the program by reading six additional books for each Reading Scores! game.

In order to authenticate having completed six books, students write the book titles and their student ID number on a Reading Scores! bookmark. Students can pick up a bookmark at the LECOM Park ticket office or any Manatee County library this summer. Completed bookmarks are redeemed at the LECOM Park ticket office.

The five games available for students to redeem their bookmarks for tickets to are:

1. Saturday, May 26th 6:30 pm (End of School Celebration) LECOM Park

2. Friday, June 22 6:30 pm (Country Night) 1611 9th Street West

3. Sunday, July 8 1:00pm (Family Fun Day) Bradenton, Fl. 34205

4. Saturday, July 21 6:30 pm (Star Wars) (941) 747-3031

5. Saturday, August 4 6:30 pm (Back to School Night)

Through Reading Scores!, children are also participating in the Suncoast Summer Book Challenge, a program that encourages children to read a least six books during the summer by providing incentives and rewards for each book read.

Focusing on summer learning is a key solution area of the Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading because low-income children lose an average of more than two months in reading achievement over the summer, which slows their progress toward third-grade reading proficiency.

The LECOM Park ticket office is open on Tuesday-Friday non-gamedays from 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

On gamedays the box office will be open on weekdays from 11:00 a.m. until the end of the game and on weekends from two hours before first pitch until the end of the game. The box office will open two hours prior to any 10:30 a.m. games.
