Raptors Shutout Osprey in 11-0 Victory Wednesday
MISSOULA, MONT - For the second time in as many days, the Ogden Raptors (17-9) plated 11 runs, winning 11-0 Wednesday over the Missoula Osprey (13-13) at Lindquist Field. Zac Almond led the Osprey offense with a single and two walks on the evening.
Ogden jumped on the scoreboard in the first inning with a two-out RBI double from Miguel Vargas. He was thrown out trying to extend it to a triple, but gave the Raptors a 1-0 lead with the RBI. Missoula starter Edgar Martinez (3-1) nearly worked out of a scoreless third inning, but an error and a two-run homer gave Ogden a 3- 0 lead through three.
Almond led off the top of the fourth with a single for the Osprey, while Alex King drew a walk. With one out, Missoula was unable to score a run off Ogden starter Jose Chacin (3-0). Matt Cogan then delivered a solo home run for Ogden in the bottom of the frame to push the lead to 4-0.
Landon Whitson entered in the bottom of the sixth on the mound for Missoula, allowing a two-out solo home run to Ronny Brito. Four consecutive singles scored two more runs and the Raptors held a 7-0 advantage after six.
Four more Raptors runs scored in the bottom of the eighth as Drew Avens drilled his second home run of the night, this one driving in three runs to cap off the four-run inning and give Ogden an 11-0 lead in which they held on to.
Leading the offense for the Osprey was Almond, who singled and walked twice to reach base in three of his four plate appearances.
