Rangers Win Over Knights

May 3, 2022 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Kitchener Rangers News Release

The Kitchener Rangers hosted the London Knights for Game 6 of this first-round playoff series, and look to re-tie it after the loss at The Bud on Sunday. As game 6 looms, only two other series since 2010 between these foes have seen six games. In 2010, London won 5-3 to force a game seven. In 2015, London also won which got them the series win. The 2021-22 Kitchener Rangers are hoping to break the spell of losses in game 6's and win to force a game seven. This new chapter in the rivals' history has been a close one, with London leading the series 3-2 heading into game six. It has consisted of tight-checking, as three games have finished as one-goal games.

The first period saw two consecutive Rangers penalties, but both are killed by the PK unit. Antonino Pugliese laid a giant hit on Steklov, which really picks up the pace offensively for the Rangers. Pavel Cajan keeps the Knights off the board during the first as he stops 19 shots.

The middle frame begins with the Rangers continuing to thrive off of the momentum change at the end of the first, putting lots of shots on Brochu. Carson Rehkopf beats Brochu (assisted by Jack Harper and Roman Schmidt), and 49 seconds later Trent Swick adds to the tally to put the Rangers up by two (assisted by Antonino Pugliese). Minutes later Rehkopf nabs his second of the period and of the game (assisted by Roman Schmidt and Mitchell Martin). Valade adds to the offensive burst for the Rangers (unassisted) to make it a 4-0 lead heading out of the period.

London makes a goaltending change at the start of the 3rd, putting in Flores. London finally gets one by Cajan (scored by Denver Barkey). Lots of back and forth action, with London pushing to get back in the game. Later on in the period, London adds another one (scored by Luke Evangelista). Adrian Misaljevic gets a go-ahead pass and rips one past Flores.

The Rangers force a Game 7 at The Bud tomorrow night at 7pm!
