Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Back home after a seven-game road trip, the Quakes got back to their winning ways, downing the visiting High Desert Mavericks, 6-3, at LoanMart Field on Thursday night.
The Quakes broke through early, hanging three runs on High Desert starter Jordan Shipers (1-2) in the second inning. O'Koyea Dickson reached on an error and came around to score on Ryan Mount's double, Mount's sixth RBI of the young season.
Scott Schebler and Scott Wingo slapped RBI singles to push the Quakes' lead to 3-0. Schebler added a three-bagger in the sixth inning and after a 2-for-4 night, the left fielder is now batting .302 with seven RBIs.
Dickson came up one inning later and slugged his third home run of the season, a solo shot over the left field fence to give the Quakes a commanding 5-0 lead. Dickson's pair of RBIs bring his total to 10 on the year.
Ross Stripling was solid in his third start of the season, allowing a pair of runs in 5 2/3 innings. Stripling (1-0) picked up his first victory of the season and pushed his strikeout total to 16 through 15 2/3 innings pitched. Stripling's 2.87 ERA leads all Quakes starters.
Angelo Songco continued his hot streak at the plate with a 2-for-4 effort including his first triple of the season. The 2011 Quakes MVP has recorded a hit in each of his last 11 games, raising his season average from .211 to .317 in that span. Songco leads the team in RBIs with 13.
Seven of the nine position players for the Quakes recorded a hit and Rancho is now batting .264 as a team, good for fourth in the California League.
Juan Noriega made his second appearance of the season, pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings for the second time in four nights.
Michael Thomas earned his California League-best fifth save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning, dropping his ERA to 1.50 on the year. Thomas and the quartet of Quakes pitchers held the Mavericks to 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position and combined to strike out nine batters.
With the win, the Quakes move back above .500, at 8-7 heading into the second game of a four-game set against High Desert. Jarret Martin (0-2, 6.00 ERA) will toe the rubber on Friday night, looking for his first victory of the 2013 campaign. For the Mavericks, Cameron Hobson (1-0, 4.32 ERA) gets the call.
