St. Lucie Mets News Release
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Florida State League announced on Monday that St. Lucie Mets pitcher Josh Prevost was selected as the League's Pitcher of the Week.
On Friday, Prevost threw a complete game one-hit shutout in the Mets 2-0 win over the Lakeland Flying Tigers. He faced the minimum amount of hitters (27). He retired 26 straight batters to finish the game.
Cam Gibson started the bottom of the first with an opposite field single. Prevost then struck out Daz Cameron and got Isaac Paredes to line out to center field. Gibson was then caught stealing second by catcher Dan Rizzie to end the first.
It was three up, three down for Prevost the rest of the game. He struck out a season-high nine batters, including Cameron three times. He fanned Zac Shepherd to end the game.
Prevost, a 6-foot-7 righty from New Jersey, only need 97 pitches for his complete game. He became the first St. Lucie pitcher this year to go the distance.
Prevost missed the last part of the 2016 season and all of the 2017 season after under going Tommy John surgery. He began this season as the No. 2 starter in the St. Lucie rotation. After an up-and-down April, Prevost found his groove in May, posting a 3-0 record with a 1.71 ERA in the month.
Prevost made a spot start for Double-A Binghamton before returning the Mets and dominating the Flying Tigers on Friday.
Prevost, 26, was selected by New York in the fifth round of the 2014 draft out of Seton Hall.
This is the first FSL Pitcher or Player of the Week award for the Mets this season.
