Preview: Lexington SC makes USL League One return away at Forward Madison FC

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Lexington Sporting Club is set to face off against Forward Madison FC at Breese Stevens Field on Saturday, returning to USL League One play for the first time since April 14 amidst USL Jagermeister Cup action. The match is set for 6 p.m. ET and will take place in Madison, Wis.

Lexington SC (1-3-2, 5 points) is coming off a 4-3 win over Chattanooga Red Wolves SC, which extended the club's point streak to four matches and marked the first road victory of the year for the Boys in Green.

Forward Madison (3-0-3, 12 points) most recently earned a 1-0 win over One Knoxville SC to extend its winning streak to four games, with the loss to Lexington during the in-season cup being the most recent blemish on the Mingo's record.

GAME NOTES

Lexington SC will be facing off with Forward Madison for the fourth time in the club's histories. The series is currently neutral, with both sides holding a 1-1-2 record after Lexington's 1-0 win to open USL Jagermeister Cup play.

Lexington SC is currently riding a four-match point streak, recording two draws and two wins dating back to April 14. This is currently the second longest point-bearing streak in club history behind a five game streak from May 27, 2023, until June 22 when the club was defeated by Forward Madison.

Lexington SC not only kicked off its first ever home Jagermeister cup match against Madison earlier this season, it also previously kicked off its first ever HOME match against Madison over one year ago, reaching a 0-0 draw for the club's first ever point.

Lexington SC has a new man in charge for the 2024 season with Darren Powell taking the reins for the club from interim head coach Nacho Novo. Sam Stockley, the club's first gaffer, remains in his sporting director role, overseeing all men's and boy's soccer with the club.

The match will mark Lexington SC's first USL League One match since April 14 (2-2 draw versus Spokane Velocity FC). This gap between games marks the longest non-offseason separation between USL League One fixtures in club history with the 2024 season seeing the introduction of the USL Jagermeister Cup.

Derek Gebhard is the man to watch for Madison. While Devin Boyce leads the Mingos on the season in goalscoring, Gebhard leads the club ALL TIME with 16 career goals in Madison. He's consistently been highly rated on the year and most recently scored the game winner against One Knoxville. For much of his tenure in Madison, Gebhard has been the heart of the attack and, as the Boys in Green proved in their 1-0 win - despite being down two men - earlier this season, the key to stopping Madison is to limit scoring opportunities and fight for the shut out. Limiting Gebhard and the Madison offense will likely be the key to securing three points in Madison.
