Preview: FC Tulsa vs. Indy Eleven, Wednesday, August 4, 7 p.m., ONEOK Field
August 3, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
FC Tulsa News Release
TULSA - Its full throttle for FC Tulsa.
After dropping its last three matches, FC Tulsa returns to the friendly confines of ONEOK Field to take back its spot as a top-three club in the Central Division with its matchup at home vs. Indy Eleven on Wednesday night.
The squad hopes to spark a run as the injury report comes up blank for the first time all season, and the addition of newly acquired forward Jason Johnson, a speedster who provides lustrous linkup play and fantastic finishing in the attacking third, could help jump start the club's attack.
Indy Eleven comes into the match without a win in its previous five outings as the Indianapolis club has been ice cold. With leaders Louisville City not appearing to apply the brakes anytime soon, the other Central Division clubs will be looking to kick it into high gear as only five points separate third-place Tulsa from eighth-place Sporting Kansas City II.
The first matchup this season between FC Tulsa and Indy Eleven was the inaugural matchup between the two in history as FC Tulsa proved victorious 2-0, backed by a Joaquín Rivas second-half brace. FC Tulsa will be looking for more of the same as it strives to get back on track and start August with a W.
ABOUT INDY ELEVEN
Like FC Tulsa, Indy Eleven is looking to turn around its fortunes as of late. Indy has not won a match since June 20th, earning three draws and losing twice during their five-match skid. In those five matches, Indy has mustered just six goals, one of which being an own goal gifted to them on behalf of Birmingham Legion FC. Overall Indy has scored 15 goals all season, the fourth fewest in all of USL Championship.
Jordan Hamilton leads the squad with four goals, Gordon Wild claims the title of best assist man with three, and goalkeeper Jordan Farr has recorded 25 saves while conceding just nine goals in eight appearances.
JOHNSON ADDITION
FC Tulsa made a midseason splash with the acquisition of forward Jason Johnson from Austin Bold FC on Monday. Johnson arrived in Tulsa on Monday night, trained with the team on Tuesday for the first time, and is available for selection for Wednesday's match against Indy Eleven. The former Jamaican international has scored more than 30 goals in his USL Championship career and has several MLS goals to his name as well.
CROWDED CENTRAL
Following three defeats for FC Tulsa in its last three outings, the Central Division of the Eastern Conference has gotten much tighter. Louisville City still holds a sizable lead over the rest of the table, but there could be lots of motion elsewhere this week. Only five points separate FC Tulsa in a tie for third place and Sporting Kansas City II in eighth. A win for Tulsa on Wednesday would vault Tulsa back into solo possession of third in the division. As a reminder, the top four teams in the division will make the USL Championship Playoffs.
