July 11, 2013 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

THE LEAD OFF: West Virginia and Kannapolis waited through a 58 minute delay before starting their Wednesday game and played three full innings before the contest was suspended due to rain in the top of the fourth. The Power scored a run in the first on a Josh Bell double and added a pair in the second to build a 3-0 lead. West Virginia will have Raul Fortunato on first base and Francisco Diaz at the plate when play resumes today at 5:00 pm. Wednesdayfs game will be played to the full nine innings with a seven-inning nightcap to follow. On Tuesday the Power beat the Intimidators 3-1 to snap a five game losing streak.

NO PLACE LIKE THE ROAD: Clay Holmes will make his 18th appearance of the season today and seventh on the road. The right-hander is 0-4 at home this season with a 5.81 earned run average, but has gone 2-1 with an ERA of 3.38 away from Appalachian Power Park. Holmes has walked more than he has struck out at home (35 BB to 29 K) and has flipped that ratio on the road (20 K to 16 BB).

INTIMIDATION FACTOR: Kannapolis holds a 45-42 edge in the all-time series against the Power, despite the fact that West Virginia took the first three meetings between the clubs earlier this season and Tuesdayfs opener. The Power have outscored the Intimidators 31-12 during this season series. With Tuesdayfs win, West Virginia also evened out their record at CMC-NorthEast stadium, having gone 23-23 in North Carolina during this series.

A GOOD STREAK: Max Morofffs hitting streak has reached six games. The Power shortstop has nine hits over 20 at bats during his last six, a .450 average, and is now one game shy of matching his career-best streak of seven from April 9 through 15. Moroff hit .343 over 23 games last season with the GCL Pirates and is batting .259 so far this season after 70 games.

IN POSITION... BUT: During West Virginiafs recent five game losing streak, their longest of the season to date, the club went 1-27 with runners in scoring position and the team left 30 men on base. The Power went 1-5 last night and stranded eight on the bases. So far this season, West Virginia is batting .248 with runners in scoring position, tied for eighth in the league.

KING OF THE HILL: Tyler Glasnowfs seven strikeout on Tuesday moved him to the top of the leaderboard with 110 this season. The right-hander leads Hickoryfs C.J. Edwards by two despite having pitched four fewer innings. Glasnowfs season strikeout tally already ranks among the best in single season history for the Power, tied with Yovanni Gallardo for eighth all-time, with roughly 10 starts remaining this season. Will Inman holds the club record with 134 during the 2006 season.

PROMO UPDATE: JULY 20- STATE CAPITAL REPLICA GIVEAWAY: The first 1,000 fans at Appalachian Power Park will receive a State Capital Replica presented by the WV Division of Rehabilitation as the Power take on the Kannapolis Intimidators at 7:05.

The Power have eight dates against the Legends remaining on their schedule... Dilson Herrera is slated to leave the club this weekend to play the MLB Futures Game at Citi Field. The game is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm and will be on ESPN 2... Tyler Glasnow had not pitched into the sixth inning during any of his previous 27 starts...
