Phipps Earns Star of the Week

December 17, 2017 - North American Hockey League (NAHL) - Johnstown Tomahawks News Release

JOHNSTOWN -The Johnstown Tomahawks and the North American Hockey League announced today that goaltender Kade Phipps was named the Bauer East Division Star of the Week for the week ending December 3, 2017.

Phipps saved 44 of 46 total shots faced including a 2-0 shutout during a weekend split with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights. In four games started with the Tomahawks, the Ohio native has earned a 1.51 goals against average and a save percentage of .951.

"We had a tight, low scoring series this weekend with Wilkes Barre and Kade was very solid in net for us keeping the game in a position for us to get wins on both nights," head coach Mike Letizia said. " Friday he was very solid when we may not have been at our best and we dropped a tight 2-1 game. He and the team bounced back with a 2-0 shutout on Saturday night where he came up with some big stops, especially on our PK. He is a very strong competitor but also very composed in the net and has been really good for our team over the last 2 weekends since arriving in Johnstown."

The Tomahawk are back home on December 30-31 for the annual New Year's Eve game, when Johnstown hosts the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.

On December 30, 2017 it's Guaranteed Win Night presented by Pennsylvania Lottery. Fans are guaranteed to win prizes with the scratch-off ticket giveaway (first 2,000 fans). There will also be a PA Lottery Bogo coupons and Team Calendar Giveaway. Puck drops at 7:00pm.

The following night, December 31, 2017 at a special 6pm start time, it's New Year's Eve Celebrations presented by Coors Light. Ring in the New Year with the annual Johnstown hockey tradition with the first 1,000 fans receiving a souvenir noise maker. There will be post game celebrations with the players followed by festivities at Central Park, in downtown Johnstown.

Tickets are still available for both games and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com - calling Ticketmaster directly at 1-800-745-3000, or visiting 1st Summit Arena @ Cambria County War Memorial box office.
