BILOXI, MS. - The Biloxi Shuckers utilized a pair of two-run homers in the sixth inning to open up a five-run lead over the Mobile BayBears, as the home team took the series finale, 7-3, at MGM Park to earn a series split. The Shuckers are now 6-3-1 in series play through the first two months of the season, as the Southern League heads towards its final 20 games of the first half.

Chris McFarland (1x3, R, BB) walked with one out in the sixth inning, leading to Brett Phillips' (1x3, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB) opposite-field shot into the netting in left which stretched the lead to 3-0. A free pass to Victor Roache (1x3, 2 R, BB) brought up Nick Ramirez, who lifted one onto the berm in right-center to open up the five-run lead. The two home runs in the frame are the most in any inning by the Shuckers this season.

Shuckers' starter Brooks Hall (2-0) made his first start since May 17 and shutout the BayBears over five innings with seven strikeouts, while allowing just one hit and walking a batter. The South Carolina native improved his lifetime record to 4-0 against Mobile, with only seven runs allowed across 43.1 innings (1.65 ERA) in nine games (seven starts).

Shuckers' starting pitchers allowed one run in the final four games of the series, covering 22.1 innings, on 13 hits, three walks and 23 strikeouts.

Big league rehabber Will Smith made his Biloxi (29-21) debut and worked a perfect sixth, including a called third strike against Kevin Medrano to end the inning.

Mobile (22-28) answered Biloxi's four-run sixth with a three-run seventh, capped by Gabriel Guerrero's three-run shot off of Brett Lee to cut the Shuckers' lead to two. Tyler Spurlin cleaned up the inning with a strikeout of reigning Southern League Player of the Week Jamie Westbrook, and induced a ground out off the bat of Ildemaro Vargas.

Garrett Cooper (1x1, 2 RBI) added insurance in the eighth with a two-run single to right to plate Phillips and Roache and bring the lead to four.

Nick Shaw (0x2, RBI, BB) put the Shuckers on the board first with an RBI fielder's choice in the fifth, scoring Ramirez on the play.

Steve Peterson appeared in his league-leading 23rd game of the season and worked a perfect eighth, picking up a strikeout along the way. Stephen Kohlscheen worked a one-two-three ninth to secure the Shuckers' 29th win of the season.

Luke Irvine (0-2) suffered the loss for the BayBears, as the 27-year-old allowed five runs on five hits, five walks and six strikeouts in six innings.
