Philadelphia Wings Sign Head Coach and General Manager Paul Day to 3-Year Extension

February 15, 2021 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) - Philadelphia Wings News Release

The Philadelphia Wings have signed Head Coach and General Manager Paul Day to a three-year contract extension through the 2023-2024 season. The new contract will take effect when the National Lacrosse League returns to action in the fall of 2021.

"Coach Day's leadership had us pushing towards a playoff spot last season," said Comcast Spectacor's Chief Business Officer, Michael Shane. "Building on that momentum, his progressive off-season moves have us well positioned to compete for a Championship. He has built a winning culture in the locker room that we are eager to carry into next season."

After leading the Wings to a record of 8-6 in the 2019-2020 season, a dramatic improvement over 2018-19 (4-14), Day was named General Manager of the Year and the recipient of the prestigious Les Bartley Award, which recognizes the NLL's Head Coach of the Year.

"I am very excited to continue building our franchise in the great city of Philadelphia," said Coach Day. "We are ready for the fall and playing at the Wells Fargo Center in front of our amazing Wings fans, in our quest for a Champion's Cup!"

Coach Day has led the Wings as Head Coach and General Manager since the team was purchased by Comcast Spectacor and returned to Philadelphia in 2017. He has built the team strategically, laying the foundation for future success while building a championship contender in just three years.

A veteran in the National Lacrosse League, Day has appeared in the finals nine times as a player, coach or general manager, capturing a total of five championships. He did this all while maintaining a 27-year career as a full-time sergeant in the Niagara Regional Police Service, specializing in street crime, intelligence and recruiting. He retired from the force in 2017 to focus his efforts on the Wings. Most recently, Day was inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame as a member of the 2020 class.
