Phantoms Drop a Pair to Dubuque

Dubuque scored the opening two goals of the game, converting at 15:24 of the first and 14:00 of the second to put the Phantoms in a 2-0 hole. Youngstown cut the lead in half at 15:23 of the second. John Beaton's half-slapper from the left circle ticked off Cade Lemmer's stick and front and bounced past Erik Portillo for Lemmer's first USHL tally, cutting the Dubuque lead to 2-1. Dubuque struck twice early in the third period, once at 2:30 and again at 2:57, to extend their lead out to the final margin of 4-1. Dominic Basse stopped 28-of-32 Dubuque shots. Youngstown only managed to get 16 shots on the Dubuque net; Portillo stopped 15.

Youngstown fired exactly 16 shots on Erik Portillo for the second game in a row, but couldn't find a way to get one behind him. The Dubuque offense exploded for three goals in each of the final two periods as Youngstown dropped the second game of the weekend 6-0. After a scoreless first, Dubuque got on the board 2:05 into the second, Riese Gaber scored his first of two goals of the game at 4:56, and the Fighting Saints tacked on another at 13:10 of the middle frame to head to the locker room up 3-0. Gaber scored again at 5:50 of the third Dubuque tacked on another pair at 12:43 and 17:07 to make up the final margin. Dominic Basse stopped 25-of-31 in net for the Phantoms.
