Phantoms Announce Billet Family of the Year

April 21, 2020 - United States Hockey League (USHL) - Youngstown Phantoms News Release

Youngstown, Ohio: During the season each Phantoms player is away from home, they stay with a billet family nine months out of the year. Each family brings a player or two into their house and helps make them a part of their family. The selfish service sometimes goes unnoticed. We appreciate our billet families tremendously. This year we started a new award as Billet of the year. We have chosen the The Rapp family as our Billet family of the year. Dean, Beth, and the entire Rapp family are the definition of "Phamily". In addition to hosting and taking care of 3 of our players (Ben Schoen, Yusaku Ando, Garrett Dahm), The Rapp's are always willing to open their home to our entire team. Whether it's having the team over to watch movies or television shows, cooking for the boys, being there for players when they are sick or injured, picking up and dropping off players with car limitations, or baking for our road trips, The Rapp family continually goes above and beyond for our players and organization. They are truly in this for the right reasons and care for our players as if they are their own. We are extremely blessed to have The Rapp Family as part of the fabric of our hockey team and organization. This recognition is very well deserved!

"Billet families are the heart and soul of Junior Hockey and we, The Youngstown Phantoms, are blessed to have an incredible group of families welcoming our players into their homes and treating them as members of their own family. The Rapp Family, like many of our Billet Families, has fostered a safe and comfortable environment for Ben, Garrett and Yusaku which has allowed them to reach their full potential on the ice and in the classroom. I can't thank the Rapp's and all of our billet families enough for all they do for The Phantoms."

"We want to thank every single family that serves as a billet for our players. We started this award this year to recognize their selflessness," said USHL President & Commissioner *Tom Garrity*. "While we know every single one of our billet families for all 16 of our Member Clubs welcome our players with open arms as if they're members of their own family, we are excited that going forward, our Clubs will be able to highlight one of these outstanding families each season. Their commitment to shaping these young men's careers and personalities during their time in the USHL is exemplary and we are continually amazed by the dedication they show in serving as a billet family."
