Peoria's big inning leads to blowout win

PEORIA, Ill. -The Peoria Chiefs scored all runs in the 5th and 6th innings and cruised to a 13-4 win over the Kernels on Thursday night at Peoria Chiefs Stadium. The Chiefs plated 9 runs in the 5th inning alone, sending a total of 13 men to the plate in the frame.
Peoria was without a base hit until the 5th inning, but they were rolling once the first one was allowed. After the first single came, nine men in a row reached base. Peoria led 9-2 after the 5th inning.
The Kernels took an early 1-0 lead in the 1st inning as four singles led to a run. Adam Brett Walker's RBI single to right plated Jorge Polanco. J.D. Williams blasted a 2-run homer to the left field burm in the 2nd inning to put the Kernels up 3-0. Tyler Grimes tripled to right-center one batter earlier.
Peoria added four runs on two extra base hits in the 6th inning, extending their lead to 13-3.
A Dalton Hicks RBI single in the 8th inning brought Niko Goodrum home, cutting the Peoria lead to 13-4.
The Kernels stranded a season-high 14 men on base. They left at least one man on base in every single inning.
Taylor Rogers (0-1) started and took the loss for the Kernels, allowing 8 runs over 4.1 innings. Manuel Soliman allowed 5 runs (2 earned) in 1.1 innings. Chris Mazza pitched 2.1 scoreless relief innings.
Jhonny Polanco (1-1) recorded the win in relief for Peoria, pitching 2 scoreless innings.
