Durham, N.C. -- Pensacola's Larry Bethea and Coastal Bend's Mike "Texas" Smith were selected by SportsTicker as the Central Baseball League Batter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, on Monday, July 19. This is the first award for each of them this season and marks the second time this year that the Pelicans and Aviators have had one of their players chosen.

Bethea had 11 hits in 24 at bats last week for a .458 average, while also recording a slugging percentage of .708, thanks in part to six doubles. He knocked in 11 runs and scored three times for the Pelicans, which lead the East Division with a 15-5 mark. Bethea has been playing professional baseball since 1995.

Smith, who is the CBL's all-time winningest pitcher with 69 wins, went 1-0 last week with a 0.00 earned run average. In his lone start, he allowed two hits and gave up an unearned run, while striking out eight as Coastal Bend defeated Fort Worth, 8-1. Smith leads the CBL in wins (9), strikeouts (110) and is third in ERA (2.29).
