Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed defenseman Dylan Zink to an American Hockey League contract for the 2017-18 season. Zink will join the Penguins during their current season on an amateur tryout contract.
Zink comes to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton after four years manning the blue line at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell. During his senior year, the 24-year-old undrafted defenseman recorded new career highs in assists (26) and points (36). Zink's 36 points was second-most among Hockey East D-men and ranked third overall nationally. He also posted four points, all assists, during the Riverhawks' run to being crowned 2017 Hockey East Champions.
Over the course of his four seasons at UMass-Lowell, the native of Madison, Wis. earned 31 goals and 56 assists for 87 career points in 143 games, as well as a plus-33 rating. He is the only defenseman in program history to record three-consecutive seasons with double digits in goal scoring.
Zink was named Second-Team All-American by the American Hockey Coaches Association on Friday evening at the Frozen Four in Chicago, Ill. The All-America Team is selected by the 60 Division-I head coaches in college hockey.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's next game is tonight, Saturday, Apr. 8, when it faces the Hartford Wolf Pack for the eighth and final time this season. Puck drop between the Penguins and Wolf Pack is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at XL Center. The Penguins' next home game is Wednesday, Apr. 12, and once again they'll take on the Phantoms.
